( NSFW ) HD art or Pixel art?

Coming a long way, aren't we? Getting so much progress in makes me wonder if I should use pixel art rather than normal art for the in game scenes and portraits. Feeling strongly on using it for the portraits, but if you all think HD art for the scenes would be better, I'll keep doing that! If you aren't familiar with my art style, here's one of my most recent public pixel arts next to one of my most recent HD art commissions!! Both are pretty cute, but, for obvious reasons, there's a lot more detail in the HD art! So, do you think pixel art would work better for this game?

you already know my opinion on this. I LOVE your art so much. Your pixel art might be less detailed, but it matches this aesthetic and also, just saying, you're REALLY good at pixel art.

Definitely pixel. HD is fine and all until the desire for animation arrives, which is a pretty big step up.

Thanks! Totally agree with you, too! This is already a really big project for both of us developers.

I noticed your really active on these posts, just want to say thanks. it's great having someone giving regular feedback on our game. Lewd's making a post for the dialogue soon and I'm looking forward to your thoughts on it. Cheers~

I mean the HD looks clean and awesome... but pixel art just adds so much to the aesthetics of most game of this kind that using it is a no brainer IMO.

I do feel guilty for not choosing the HD art though, it looks fantastic which is not very common nowadays with so much AI art roaming around.

Don't feel guilty!! Am Learning to do pixel art and honestly, love the aesthetic of it! Just happy that everyone else agrees that the pixel art is the right move.

Might still do full HD art as long some credit scenes or something later in the game. Maybe even just some things I post as promotional art on socials!!

If you want to add them I think it may be an interesting idea to put the Full HD art as picture in frames around the game or maybe as collectables you can add to a picture book. It is a good easter egg and it can add something else for the players to do around the maps.

^^agree
the pause menu is referred to as your "Book of Life" that records all your events in this life and adding a memories section to it would be very fun. like have all the slots empty with little hints at what leads to them
"Forgot to knock", "Midnight Snack", "Rainbow Factory"
if you know you know :))

I think pixel art might be the way to go for both the portraits and in game scenes, since you’re already feeling strong on using it for the portraits it might be nice to have everything in a consistent pixel art style. I just believe that will keep everything cohesive but ultimately it is up to you, I do think your HD art is really good and I’d be fine with either if I’m perfectly honest lol

That's a good point. The overwhelming conclusion from everyone is that pixel art is the right choice and I agree. The scenes I've already made can be used other things.

Thank you for the compliment, though!!! My art may not be used in this game but, swallowing my pride is just part of that process of making a great game!!

yeah this is my thing as well. I'm in college for software engineering and game design because I'm tired of devs who think because they put a bunch of effort into something that it must be put into the game and must be fun. We're making a game that's fun in aesthetic, unique in dynamics, and comfortable in mechanics. Player input WILL decide most of this game outside of the story. That's going to be 90% Lewd and some input from me.

but mechanics and such? Oh yeah, players know what fun is and devs should listen to them. I could rant all day on this.
Trees take too long to cut down? we tweak it
Leveling is too grindy? we tweak it.
Mines are too hard? I'm actually planning a difficulty scaling in the options for that.
